The publications are now following the same template even though you do not need to know most of them for the foundation exam. As if it is really big difference in the organisations they made a clear separation between process owner and process manager responsibilities.( If you know one company who has different people assigned for these roles please punch me in the face!)
So process owner is the big boss responsible for almost everything everything( not updating the CIs)

•   Ensuring that the process is fit for purpose 
• Designing, producing policies, managing changes and periodically reviewing for compliance and improvement

 whereas the process manager is responsible for

• day to day management of the process
•  managing the resources carrying out the process activities, identifying the improvements.

ITIL Foundation Certificate in IT Service Management( V5.5)

I have chosen to take the exam with EXIN Anywhere option. The exam-only costs £145.20 and after paying for the online exam fee you have 3 weeks to take the exam any time you want. As far as I read you need to be in a silent room where there is no other computer, no papers or notes on the walls, no phones ringing, no internet search or keyboard typing etc. Hence take it serious and do not try to cheat:)
Well, as you might be already aware the test is multiple choice and about 40 questions. You need 65% to pass which is about 26 right answers. You will have an hour to finish the test and it is a closed book exam. A 3 full days of training or studying is recommended.

EDIT: Even though I had passed the online exam, I had received an email from Exin Holland that the recording did  now work properly so the exam became invalid. Now I understand that it is worth going to a test center to avoid such disturbance. They promised to refund my money however it does not make the disturbance any better.

How to remove hyperlinks from multiple cells in Excel?

It is a nightmare that Excel is trying to open a new web page for all the sells that you kust need to see or copy as a plain text!
I found a very simple solution for that and want to share it with you:

What you need to do is simple multiply the cells with 1 that you want to remove the hyperlinks:)
Select an empty cell and type 1, then select all cells that you need to remove hyperlinks, via pressing shift key, then right click and select paste special. There click the option multiply and it is done!

How to keep 2 excel sheets open side by side?

For the project I have been working nowadays, I need to work with Excel frequently.
I need to compare two excel sheets so I need to keep them open side by side. since they are both excel documents, MS tried to save the memory for that and does not allow me to do so, unless you follow these simple steps:

1) Click on the office icon and select excel options.
2)Go to the Advanced tab and scroll down to general section to click ignoring other applications.

That is all!!!

What I do to overcome is simple, I go to that folder and right click the file and run as admin. It works!!

OPatch was not able to get details of the home from the inventory

If OPatch is failing becuase of inventory issues, you can force it to use the inventory you have. Try to use this:
-opatch apply -invPtrLoc

Server Level and Application Level Configuration Files in OAS

I was editing, using, sometimes digging these files but it is really useful to have them all listed like this.
I found it really useful especially when you knew to edit this xml file but not sure where it was or how to do it.

Install has detected that Oracle Application Server is already installed in this Oracle Home

If you are trying to install SOA Suite(might be just Oracle Application Server) and you get this error even though the home you are trying to use is not being used, then most probably the orainventory file has been corrupted.

-You can try to check whether this home is listed on the file /oraInventory/ContentsXML/inventory.xml. If so try to remove it and reboot your machine. Then rerun the installer.

- If this does not help, you can force the installer to use another inventory file that you create. I.e:

• Create a file called oraInst.loc and add these lines:

inventory_loc=/u01/app/oracle/oracle/product/10.1.3/oraInventory
inst_group=dba



• run the installer with this parameter:

runInstaller -invPtrLoc /u01/app/oracle/oracle/product/10.1.3/oraInst.loc

Reading as a Business Center in UK

Reading is a small city near to London and Heathrow airport. -There are train and couches directly from these centers.- As far as I could see, it is supported to have your business in Reading even though the infrastructure of the city is not sufficient.

Hotels in down town(Novotel, Malmaison, Crowne Plaza, etc) are almost fully booked and if you do not do your reservation in advance, most probably you will have problem! So watch out of this!!

If you need to reach to Thames Valley Park there is a free shuttle service starting from the train station every 8 minutes in rush hours. It is better to take this bus, cause buses and some taxis have a private line. Considering an unbelievable traffic in rush hours, you've better take my advice:) Roads are not big enough and during weekdays you will be surprised to see such traffic.
There is a high street for shopping but most of the shops are closed after 6pm. There is only "The Oracle Shopping Mall" left both for dining and shopping.

AIA Installation Steps

Basic Installation Steps are as follows:

- Install SOA Suite 10.1.3.1
- Upgrade SOA Suite to 10.1.3.3
- Install AIA required patches on 10.1.3.3 (at least 10 patches)
- Install OSR (Oracle Service Registry)
- Deploy BRM Adapter if required
- Install AIA on the same SOA home

You need to take care of installing all the softwares with Oracle user and pay special attention to env variables.
Most importantly, even if the Oracle Universal Installer says the installation is successful, it is crucial to check the installation log files: lessons learned from my experience..

Jdev 11g available!!

Jdev 11g is officially released on October 2008 and available on OTN(yuppiiiii).

It is certified on Windows NT/2000/XP/Vista, Linux, and Macintosh and requires JDK 6.

Passive connection 127.0.0.1,6101 missing connect

If you cannot make opmn run during soa installation and get some irrelevant errors on ui and see this error log on opmn.log, do not worry:) You can handle this issue with an easy configuration change on db.

I faced this error when db and soa_suite are designed to be running on the same server. And most probably the default ports are conflicting.

Go to the ons.conf which is under opmn conf of your db_home. Change the settings from "localport=6100 remoteport=6200 loglevel=3" to something like "localport=7100 remoteport=7200 loglevel=3" (of course if they are not in use!). Restart the listener.
Retry the soa installation and enjoy!!

File does not exist: /$SOA_HOME/Apache/Apache/htdocs/em

This error log appears on $SOA_HOME/Apache/Apache/logs/error_log.* when you try to access http://yourhost.port/em and cannot access it.
It just happened to me after successfully installing SOA 10.1.3.1
What you need to do is check whether the ascontrol application is up or not.
Run this to see the applications , their status ,etc

• opmnctl status -app

You will most probably see that it was down:

15831 ascontrol stopped g_rt_id external true

For ASControl to be functional httpserver must be running and the ascontrol application of one of the oc4j should be up. .So you know what to do now:

• opmnctl startproc process-type=home application=ascontrol

Check the status now and retry to access it.
